While at RISD I became interested in the barrier between the physical and the digital worlds. I began experimenting with that barrier by introducing digital objects into the physical world and physical objects into the digital. The barrier between the two became permeable, allowing rich narratives to form. I experimented with 3D printing and 3D scanning (using 123D Catch). I created a typeface out of the digital artifacts found within InDesign and began creating compositions that break the digital and physical planes. The result of my experimentations and discoveries are housed in an animation that shows a narrative floating here and there in between two different realms. The animation references Michel Foucault's essay Of Other Spaces, which talks about places he called Heterotopias. Heterotopias are defined within the essay as "spaces of otherness", "a single real place that juxtaposes several spaces."
